~ We have received the following invitation from the Alaska Orthodox Church (who rent our old building):

A reliquary containing relics of St. Vladimir, Great Prince of Kiev and Equal to the Apostles, arrives in Victoria at All Saints of Alaska Orthodox Church on Monday, September 20 at 3pm. This is an historic event, as it is the first time these relics have been blessed to travel outside Ukraine. Victoria is the first stop on their journey across Canada. Vladimir was a 10th century pagan ruler in the Kievan Rus – present-day Belarus and Ukraine – who sent emissaries abroad to discover the true faith. The mission resulted in his conversion to Orthodox Christianity in 988, and subsequently all his subjects, then all of Russia and Ukraine. He is venerated as a saint in Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Anglican and Lutheran faith traditions.

Everyone is welcome, the church will be open to visitors from
3 pm – 9pm Monday and 10 am – 1 pm Tuesday with an
evening service at All Saints of Alaska Orthodox Church, 5363
Hamsterly Road across from Elk Lake, on Monday,

~ The ELB 2010 Budget contains some money for extra secretarial time to deal with projects that our Church Secretary, Adriana Hatton does not have time to get done.  Adriana is paid for 5 hours per week to handle the normal administrative requirements of the church. There are currently two or three important projects that need to get done. It has been approved by the Deacons that Carol Biggs will be hired on a contract basis, for a few hours between now and December 31, probably not exceeding 20-30 in total, to get these projects done. All projects, hours and payment will be approved by the Chair of the Deacons and the Moderator and reported back to the congregation. This is not a permanent position and this arrangement extends only until December 31, 2010.
