~ Adult Sunday School began today at 10:00 a.m. The topic for this class is the book of Esther. Everyone is welcome.
~ Ryan and Brittany Biggs are pleased to announce the arrival of their daughter, Samara Renee Biggs. She was born Monday, February 15 at 8:52 a.m. and weighed 7 lbs. 12 oz. and was 20” long.
~ CBM/Sharing Way have established a Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund. You may contribute to this fund through an ELB giving envelope. (Write: Haiti Earthquake Relief). Cheques may be made out to ELB from which you will receive an income tax receipt. All such designated funds will be sent to CBM/Sharing Way for helping the situation in Haiti.
~ Elk Lake Baptist Church wishes to hire a part time youth leader (10 hours per month) for a group of early teens and nearly teens who are eager to be part of a youth group experience. ~ A New Feature: Each Sunday, we will be providing a special worship bulletin for children ages 3 – 6 and one for children ages 7 – 11. Please see an usher if your children didn’t receive this bulletin. (Thanks to Alison Ellis for arranging this).
~ Kids Helping Kids. Donna Forster would like us to be aware of a “Kids Helping Kids” event on Tuesday, March 2, 7:00 p.m. at First Church of the Nazarene, 4277 Quadra. ~ World Day of Prayer is Friday, March 5, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Cordova Bay United Church. The Prayer Service was written by the women of Cameroon. A Cameroon lunch and interaction will follow the service.
~ Harry Verstraaten (Barb’s husband) has lost two significant people in his life to cancer – one person recently (Tony – long time colleague) and his mother-in-law (Barb McKnight) in 2002. Motivated by this, Harry is going to participate in a bike-riding fund raiser for Cancer Research titled “The Ride to Conquer Cancer” taking place on lower Vancouver Island in June. Harry invites all those who are interested in supporting him to pick up a support form in the foyer or see Barb Verstraaten or Les Biggs for more info.
~ Toonies for Tuni, India. As mentioned in the announcements last week, the Baptist Women ask for your help again this year in collecting “Toonies” for the women’s school in Tuni, India. Please put your Toonies in a separate envelope marked “TUNI” Or put them in with your regular weekly envelope and mark “Tuni” under Other. Of course, it doesn’t have to be “Toonies”, you may give as much as you like. Thank you from the Baptist Women.
~ The Nursery is seeking people who would, once a month (or less if more people are available) look after young children for the first part of the service. (This will enable parents not to miss most of the worship services.) Thanks to Charlotte Ann who is doing this on the first Sunday of the month. Please speak to Alison Ellis if you can help out.
~ Gary Nelson, the General Secretary of the Canadian Baptist Ministries since 2000, will be moving to Tyndale University College and Seminary to be their President in July of this year.
