Announcements for February 7th, 2010

~ Today we say farewell to Ryan, Samantha, Isabelle and Alexandra Johnston who are moving to Langley. There will be a time of farewell following this service in the Fellowship room. We are happy for the opportunities that Ryan and Sam will have in Langley, but very sorry we won’t be sharing the journey together as we have in the past few years.

~ The next congregational prayer time will be on Ash Wednesday, February 17th, 7 – 8 p.m. at the church.

~ CBM/Sharing Way have established a Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund. You may contribute to this fund through an ELB giving envelope. (Write: Haiti Earthquake Relief). Cheques may be made out to ELB from which you will receive an income tax receipt. All such designated funds will be sent to CBM/Sharing Way for helping the situation in Haiti.

~ Adult Sunday School will begin on Sunday, February 21st. Please talk to Rick Downe for more information.

~ The Baptist Women’s meeting this month is at 10:00 a.m. as usual, but will this time be followed by a delicious homemade soup and bun lunch, after which Fran Barton will lead us in the Great Canadian Bible Study. Please read John 4: 1-42 as an overview of the study. We will meet at the church and we invite any and all ladies to join us for this special day. If you can only make it for lunch and the Bible Study, we would be very pleased to have you join us at 12:00 noon.

~ Elk Lake Baptist Church wishes to hire a part time youth leader (10 hours per month) for a group of early teens and nearly teens who are eager to be part of a youth group experience. ~ A New Feature: Each Sunday, we will be providing a special worship bulletin for children ages 3 – 6 and one for children ages 7 –11. Please see an usher if your children didn’t receive this bulletin. (Thanks to Alison Ellis for arranging this).

~ Dr. Rikk Watts, New Testament professor at Regent College, Vancouver, will be giving a public lecture at the University of Victoria, Monday, February 8, from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. See bulletin board for more information.

~ Kids Helping Kids. Donna Forster would like us to be aware of a “Kids Helping Kids” event on Tuesday, March 2, 7:00 p.m. at First Church of the Nazarene, 4277 Quadra. Proceeds from ticket sales help children in need who attend Greater Victoria Public Schools. Tickets $12 (Adults) $10 (Students and Seniors) See bulletin board for contact info.

~ The 95th Anniversary of CGIT in Canada is being hosted by Centennial United Church on Saturday, April 24th. All CGIT Alumnae and CGIT groups in B.C. are invited to participate. See bulletin board for more information.

~ The Men’s Breakfast for February has a date change. Please note that FEBRUARY 20TH is the date of the next Men’s Breakfast. The Fellowship Hall has been rented out to the Weaver’s Guild on the weekend we usually meet.

~ Advance notice of an Easter Choir being organized! If you are interested in joining, please make a note in your diary to keep Friday nights in March open for rehearsals. Speak to George #2 and sing every day!
