Announcements for January 10th, 2009

~ Our Annual General Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 4th. All chairpersons and ministry leaders are asked to submit a 2009 report by January 10th.

~ You are invited to an hour of Congregational Prayer – this Thursday from 7 – 8 p.m. here at our church building. The Holy Habits of Listening to God and Speaking to God need to be cultivated for herein lies the secret and power of our life together.

~ The next 60 More or Less Luncheon will be on February 4th at 12 noon. Please speak to Bill Smethurst for more information.

~ The New BC Christian News can be picked up from the Literature table. It has an “Island Insight” section with news about Vancouver Island churches.

~ David and Cathie Phillips are leading a fascinating trip through Turkey exploring many Biblical sites. The trip is planned for Sunday, April 25 – Friday, May 7, 2009. See the Bulletin Board for more info.

~ Please mark your calendars – The next Island Women’s Day Away will be held April 24, 2010 at Gateway Baptist Church in Victoria, Brochures will be sent out as soon as they are ready.

~ CBWC is planting churches… With Beulah-land Chinese Baptist in Richmond; Emmaus Christian Community in Burnaby; Greenhills Christian Fellowship in Vancouver; Peninsula Mission in Sidney; Riverside Community in Prince George; God’s House of Many Faces in East Vancouver; University Chinese Baptist in Vancouver and with new opportunities coming up in Victoria, Qualicum, Burnaby and South Vancouver – British Columbia is becoming a hotbed of church planting!!!

~ Stewardship Issues: The arrival of personal computers in the early 1980’s brought forecasts of the “paperless office.” It hasn’t turned out that way. Between 1983 to 2003, per-capita paper consumption in Canada ballooned by 94 % to almost 20,000 pages per person by 2003.

~ The ELB map: From Sidney to James Bay to Sooke. Please take the time to put your name on the map where you live. One of the values of this map will be to help coordinate rides to various ELB events
