~ About collecting Stamps for the Leprosy Mission: The Leprosy Mission will continue to receive regular stick-on stamps of any kind. Envelopes with printed postage are NO LONGER being accepted as the Leprosy Mission does not receive any funds for them.

~ From Sylvan Acres: Under the excellent guidance of the Sylvan Board, with Rob Filgate as chair, a new director (Calley Erickson) has been appointed. Calley and Carrie have led several areas in our family of churches, including, over the last few years, Mill Creek (a CBWC Camp near Pincher Creek, Alta.)

~ QUEENSWOOD RETREAT CENTRE – It is with great sadness that we share the news that Queenswood retreat centre will close permanently on October 1st, 2010. In March 2010, the Sisters of St. Ann announced the sale of their Arbutus Road property to the University of Victoria (UVic). It was hoped that Queenswood might continue its operations as a tenant of the university. Negotiations for a lease with UVic proceeded with good will, but with the best terms possible, capital and operational expenses would require fundraising a minimum of $3.5 million over the next five years in order to fund a 10-year lease, capital costs and operations. We were advised by fundraising experts that this target is not feasible. Therefore, last week the Queenswood board of directors recommended the orderly closure of Queenswood.

~ The church building has been rented for a wedding this coming weekend. It will be in used on Friday, June 25th from 4 – 5 pm and on Saturday from 3:00 – 4:00 pm.

He has shown he has the ability to move us in a different direction and be more effective in the future.”

~ Today is Solidarity Sunday. On this special day, we ask that all Canadian Baptists give a minimum of one or two Toonies to help support Rwanda. One small sacrifice. One huge impact, when multiplied together. Last year, churches across Canada raised over $40,000 for our brothers and sisters in Indonesia! We hope to exceed that amount this year. Anyone wishing a receipt for their donation should use the envelope provided and put their name or envelope number on the outside.
