~ Our Annual Fall Thanksgiving Dinner will be held on Saturday, October 24th! A sign-up sheet for what to bring is on the bulletin board.

~ Les Funk will be preaching next Sunday. For more information on the schedule of guest speakers, please speak to Ryan.

~ Next Sunday we will have a Special Presentation on Operation Christmas Child and the shoeboxes will be available then.

~ The meeting of The Baptist Women’s Group, which is usually the second Wednesday of the month, will be this coming Wednesday, October 21st and will be at the home of Donna Jarvis at 10:00 a.m.

~ The next Quarterly Meeting of Elk Lake Baptist Church will be on Thursday, October 29th at 7:30 p.m. Please talk to Ryan or Greg if you would like a ride.

~ Planning is underway for the Advent Service on the evening of November 29th. A special choir of more than 15 people is being assembled. This will be a great event, so please start planning who you will invite. We are looking for a pool of drivers to give rides to people who prefer not to drive at night. Please talk to Ryan if you are able to drive.

~ The Craft Group will be meeting this coming Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the church. We will be working on plastic mesh embroidery for coasters and other crafts items. Everyone is welcome.

~ Thank you so much from Rick and Lynn Rancourt for all the help and kitchen gifts which made us feel so welcome to Lakeview Cottage. We are so grateful!

~ This morning we welcome Ingrid White as our guest speaker. Ingrid is the Associate Pastor of Seniors and Missions at Emmanuel Baptist Church. We look forward to hearing what the Lord has given you to share with us today.

~ TODAY IS THANKSGIVING SUNDAY. The theme for our display this year is “Thankfulness for our Church Family.” Thank you to those who were able to bring in a family picture to add to the display.

~ The Church Picnic is today, immediately following the worship service. The picnic will be held on the “North Lawn”. We will be sharing a picnic-style potluck lunch and coffee, tea, juice and ice cream are supplied. After lunch there will be games and fun activities for all ages, so we encourage everyone to make an effort to stay for this event and have a great time of fellowship, even if you can’t play the games. See you there later!

~ PRAYER EVENT: It is our great privilege to converse with Almighty God who in His great love, wants to converse with us. As James puts it, “Come near to God and He will come near to you” James 4:8. On Thursday, June 25, 2009, from 7 – 8 p.m., the Deacons invite you to a time of prayerful discernment of God’s ongoing guidance for our congregation. You will not be asked to pray out loud but your presence is still considered important. Child care will be provided. The Deacons are praying that this kind of Prayer Event becomes a holy habit of our congregation.

~ This summer the C.E. Committee is planning to offer another edition of “Adventure Camp”. Talk to Samantha Johnston for more information. The Camp will be held July 13 – 17th from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Helpers are still needed.

~ The Baptist Women will be holding their ANNUAL STRAWBERRY TEA on Saturday, June 27th, 2009, from 1:30 – 4:00 p.m. This year the ladies will have a silent auction, home baking, attic treasures, a children’s table and entertainment. Adult tickets are $5.00, family – $12.00 and children 7 and under – $3.00.

~ David and Cathie Phillips and CBM will lead an unforgettable tour of Turkey next October 18th to October 30th. See the Bulletin Board for more information.

~ Thanks to all those who made a contribution to Solidarity Sunday. Your gift is much appreciated!

~ A Work Party! – this coming Saturday, May 23rd, from 9:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Everyone is invited to this morning of looking after our building and grounds. There will be an important task for everyone who shows up!

~ There are two flower beds that need someone to lovingly keep them free of weeds. If interested, please speak to George Cooper.

~ Regular Part-time Administrative Volunteer(s) wanted: Want to contribute in a peaceful, positive environment on a regular basis? Help out in a meaningful ministry at South Island Centre for Counselling and Training. We are in desperate need of some regular volunteer help in the office. A commitment to 2 hours per week is desired. Duties are variable but could include such tasks as reception, filing, and data entry. As an arm of the Christian community, South Island Centre helps people grow toward healthy relationships with God, self and others through counselling, as well as consulting with clergy and training the caring community. ~ An Extraordinary Vancouver Island Association meeting will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at the Forge in Victoria (formerly Western Community Baptist Church). The meeting agenda will focus on consideration of a motion to dissolve VIA as a Society.

~ An Adult Sunday School class happens each Sunday at 10:00 a.m. This class focuses on learning ways to get rid of those defective thought patterns that mess up your experience of God and life. The book, which forms the basis of the discussion, is “Telling Yourself the Truth” by William Backus and Marie Chapian.

~ Next Sunday, March 15th, we will have a St. Patrick’s Day luncheon right after the service. It will consist of four kinds of homemade soup, rolls and home-baked pies and is sponsored by the Social Committee at no cost to you, so do come out and join us for good food and fellowship. There is a Sign-Up sheet on the Bulletin Board so please sign in if you plan to attend so the ladies know how much soup to make or if you can bring a home-made pie. See you there!

~ The CBWC Annual Assembly will be held April 23 – 26, 2009, In Banff, Alberta. The speaker for the Assembly is Mark Buchanan and the music ministry is by “Krystaal”. Would you like to be a delegate? See Les Biggs.

~ Baptist Women will welcome guest speaker Donna Forster on Wednesday, March 11th at 10:00 a.m. at the Church. Donna will be speaking on the topic of “Canadian Public Policy on Prostitution and Brothels”. Please feel free to join us if you are interested.

~ The VIA Annual Meeting will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 4th, 2009 at the Forge Church.

~ The Custodian position is open as of April 1st. This position is 3 hours per week, plus 1 – 2 hours per month for the hall in the lower building. This is an hourly paid position. Please submit a written application to the Chair of the Building and Grounds Committee, George Cooper.

~ The Annual General Meeting will be held this Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. The Annual Reports are available today after the service.

~ February is Stewardship Month at Elk Lake Baptist. Please reflect on the insert and your own stewardship attitudes and practices. Stewardship Month is sponsored by the Finance Committee. Thanks to Graham Hickling for his work on the inserts.

~ An Adult Sunday School class will begin next Sunday, February 15th. at 10:00 a.m. This class will focus on learning ways to get rid of those defective thought patterns that mess up your experience of God and life.

~ Our “Thirst for Justice” Missional Group has a display in the foyer on water issues, locally and globally. You are invited to stop by and gain some perspectives on this increasingly critical issue. Thanks to Wendy Wagemaker for putting this together.

~ This Wednesday, February 11, at 10:00 a.m., the Baptist Women will meet at the church for their Annual “Great Canadian Bible Study”. The study will be on Tabitha, meaning “gazelle” or “a beautiful woman of God”.

~ Baptist Women Present: A Valentine Supper next Saturday, February 14th at 6:00 p.m. Adults: $10; children 6 – 12: $5 and children under 5 are free. You will enjoy a fine Italian dinner and an evening to remember.
