~ Adult Sunday School is on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m. Bible character studies are the focus. Everyone is welcome! Speak to Rick Downe for more information.

~ Les Biggs will be on Sabbatical from October 1, 2009 to December 31, 2009. During the Sabbatical, Ryan Johnston will be in the Church Office on Fridays. Leave a message on Ryan’s cell to reach him mid-week (250) 884-7583.

~ Stacy Toews, the co-founder of Level Ground Coffee, will be preaching next Sunday. He will discuss how our shopping habits can serve God. For more information on the schedule of guest speakers, please speak to Ryan.

~ Operation Christmas Child is a fun and simple, hands-on project of Samaritan’s Purse in which anyone can participate. Each gift-filled shoebox is used to bless the life of a child living in a desperate situation. Boxes can be picked up today, but please note that the return date for the boxes is November 15th.

~ Committee Chairs – please submit budget proposal for the 2010 year to the Chair of the Finance Committee (Velma Ryder) or place it in the Finance Committee mailbox. The Finance Committee would also like a projection of spending for the remainder of the year. Both of these items are needed by November 15th.

~ Planning is underway for the Advent Service on the evening of November 29th. A special choir of more than 20 people is being assembled. This will be a great event, so please start planning who you will invite. We are looking for a pool of drivers to give rides to people who prefer not to drive at night. Please talk to Ryan if you are able to drive.

~ The Memorial Service for Eliza Winston will be held in the afternoon of Saturday, November 7th at Elk Lake Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. There will be a tea following the service.

~ The next church Prayer Event will be on November 11th. Please talk to a deacon for more information.

~ This year’s Women’s World Day of Prayer will be held on Monday, November 2nd at 10:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church. All women are invited to this event.

~ Rick and Lynn Rancourt will be speaking next Sunday. They will share on their experiences as missionaries. For more information on the schedule of guest speakers, please speak to Ryan.

~ PRAYER EVENT: It is our great privilege to converse with Almighty God, Who, in His great love, wants to converse with us. As James puts it, “Come near to God and He will come near to you” James 4:8. On Thursday, June 25, 2009, from 7- 8 p.m., the Deacons invite you to a time of prayerful discernment of God’s ongoing guidance for our congregation. You will not be asked to pray out loud but your presence is still considered important. Child care will be provided. The Deacons are praying that this kind of Prayer Event becomes a holy habit of our congregation.

~ This summer the C.E. Committee is planning to offer another edition of “Adventure Camp”. Talk to Samantha Johnston for more information. The Camp will be held July 13 – 17th from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Helpers are still needed.

~ The Baptist Women will be holding their ANNUAL STRAWBERRY TEA on Saturday, June 27th, 2009, from 1:30 – 4:00 p.m. This year the ladies will have a silent auction, home baking, attic treasures, along with a children’s table and entertainment. Adult tickets are $5.00, family – $12.00 and children 7 and under – $3.00.

~ David and Cathie Phillips and CBM will lead an unforgettable tour of Turkey next October 18th to October 30th. See the Bulletin Board for more information if you think you might be able to join the Phillips on this amazing tour!

~ At an extraordinary Business Meeting on June 13, 2009, the Vancouver Island Association of CBWC Churches was officially dissolved. The Sylvan Acres Camp property has been transferred to the CBWC and the Camp Board will now report to CBWC. It is hoped that the new arrangement will strengthen the work of Sylvan Acres Camp and the work of the churches together.

~ A Newsletter from CBM (Canadian Baptist Ministries) arrived this week. Check out the LiteratureTable to get a copy.
