~ Les Biggs will be on Sabbatical from October 1, 2009 to December 31, 2009. During the Sabbatical, Ryan Johnston will be in the Church Office on Fridays. Leave a message on Ryan’s cell to reach him mid-week (250) 884-7583.

~ Rick and Lynn Rancourt will be speaking next Sunday. They will share on their experiences as missionaries. For more information on the schedule of guest speakers, please speak to Ryan.

~ Operation Christmas Child is a fun and simple, hands-on project of Samaritan’s Purse in which anyone can participate. Each gift-filled shoebox is used to bless the life of a child living in a desperate situation. Boxes can be picked up today.

~ The next Quarterly Meeting of Elk Lake Baptist Church will be on Thursday, October 29th at 7:30 p.m. Please talk to Ryan or Greg about arranging a ride if you need one.

~ Committee Chairs please submit budget proposal for the 2010 year to the Chair of the Finance Committee (Velma Ryder) or place it in the Finance Committee mailbox. The Finance Committee would also like a projection of spending for the remainder of the year. Both of these items are needed by November 15th.

~ Planning is underway for the Advent Service on the evening of November 29th. A special choir of more than 20 people is being assembled. This will be a great event, so please start planning who you will invite. We are looking for a pool of drivers to give rides to people who prefer not to drive at night. Please talk to Ryan if you are able to drive.

~ The Memorial Service for Eliza Winston will be held in the afternoon of November 7th at Elk Lake Baptist Church. The exact time will be announced next Sunday.

~ A Men’s Breakfast will be held on Saturday, October 31st at 9:00 a.m. Please feel free to bring friends or relatives!

~ The next church Prayer Event will be on November 11th. Please talk to a deacon for more information.

~ Our Annual Fall Thanksgiving Dinner will be held on Saturday, October 24th! A sign-up sheet for what to bring is on the bulletin board.

~ Les Funk will be preaching next Sunday. For more information on the schedule of guest speakers, please speak to Ryan.

~ Next Sunday we will have a Special Presentation on Operation Christmas Child and the shoeboxes will be available then.

~ The meeting of The Baptist Women’s Group, which is usually the second Wednesday of the month, will be this coming Wednesday, October 21st and will be at the home of Donna Jarvis at 10:00 a.m.

~ College and Career Golf Day – Saturday, October 3rd at Mount Doug Golf Course – 4225 Blenkinsop. Tee-off time is 9:30 a.m. Please speak to Dale Armstrong for more information.

~ Thanks to all those who have participated in the “house shower” for Rick and Lynn Rancourt. Today is the last day to bring in your items. Any questions, please speak to Carol Biggs.

~ THANKSGIVING SUNDAY is October 11th. The theme for our display this year is Thankfulness for our Church Family.  To further this theme, you are invited to bring a picture (5×7 or larger if at all possible) of you (and your family) and it will be incorporated into the display.  Thanks.

~ Our Annual Corn Roast is today! Lunch will consist of corn and hot dogs, with ice cream for dessert. Everyone is welcome! Please bring lawn chairs or a blanket to sit on.

~ An Adult Sunday School class happens each Sunday at 10:00 a.m. This class focuses on learning ways to get rid of those defective thought patterns that mess up your experience of God and life. The book, which forms the basis of the discussion, is “Telling Yourself the Truth” by William Backus and Marie Chapian.

~ Ryan Johnston will be giving the morning sermon today… the last in the “Conversation Series”.

~ Thanks to the Social Committee for organizing the St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon last week.

~ The CBWC Annual Assembly will be held April 23 – 26, 2009, in Banff, Alberta. The speaker for the Assembly is Mark Buchanan and the music ministry is by “Krystaal”. Would you like to be a delegate? See Les Biggs.

~ The VIA Annual Meeting will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 4th, 2009 at the Forge Church.

~ Small Groups are a regular part of life at Elk Lake Baptist with a number of groups meeting regularly. New groups are started as leaders and interested people become available. If you are interested in being part of a small group, please see Les Biggs.

~ The Custodian position is open as of April 1st. This position is 3 hours per week, plus 1 – 2 hours per month for the hall in the lower building. This is an hourly paid position. Please submit a written application to the Chair of the Building and Grounds Committee, George Cooper.

~ A new 3-hour per week paid Administrative/Secretarial position has been approved by the Deacons and included in our 2009 budget. This position will focus on administrative tasks important for the life of the church and currently not receiving full attention. If interested, please submit a resume to our Moderator, Greg Hatton. Adriana Hatton will be continuing in her role as Office Secretary.

The book, which forms the basis of the discussion, is “Telling Yourself the Truth” by William Backus and Marie Chapian.

~ Today is our “St. Patrick’s Day” luncheon right after the service. It will consist of four kinds of homemade soup, rolls and home-baked pies and is sponsored by the Social Committee at no cost to you, so even if you are a first-time visitor, or just weren’t sure yet last week if you would be able to attend, do stay and join us for good food and fellowship. You’ll be glad you did and so will we!

~ We welcome Gordon King, Director of the Sharing Way, to our service this morning. Gordon will be giving us an update on the work of The Sharing Way with some biblical reflection.
