~ The Elk Lake Baptist Church Visual Arts Celebration ends today. Thanks to Les Funk and other Art Club folk who helped organize this fine event.

~ The ELB Benevolent Fund is designed to provide emergency financial support to help people within the congregation who are in times of special need. This fund is currently in need of replenishment. Gifts to this fund can be made by designating, “Benevolent Fund” on your giving envelope. The Deacons look after making distributions from this fund. If you know of a special need within the congregation, please talk to any deacon and/or the moderator or pastor.

~ There will be a Baby Shower for Christine and Eli tomorrow, May 16th at 7 p.m., here at the church building.

~ Les Biggs’ Graduation Ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 29, 2011 at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Vancouver. A reception will follow. Anyone who wishes to attend may do so.

~ “To Opt for Joy”. Celebrating 15 years of Taize services in Victoria. You are invited to join in a quiet, meditative prayer and music filled service followed by a talk by Brother Emile from the community of Taize, France. This will be at First Metropolitan United at Quadra & Balmoral, on Friday, May 20,’11, 6-7 p.m. The talk by Brother Emile will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

~ Stewardship Questionnaire. Last Sunday during the service, the congregation filled out a “Stewardship Questionnaire”. If you weren’t here last Sunday but would like to get in on the fun, there are questionnaire sheets on the table in the foyer. It can be filled out in less than 5 minutes. Give your filled out questionnaire to Les B. and your input will be included in the results which will be reported next Sunday.

~ The Church Picnic will be Sunday, June 12th immediately following the worship service.

~ We have received a letter from Arwen Holmlund updating us about her activities. It is posted on the bulletin board. Arwen is currently teaching in a new Christian school in Killam, Alberta.

~ On Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 7:30 p.m., you are invited to meet with Laurena Zondo. “For the past 14 years, Laurena Zondo has been a member of the communications team at CBM and is the editor of mosaic, CBM’s national magazine. At the end of this year she leaves CBM to devote herself full- time to a new calling – the continued development of A Peace of Life. This organization is a grassroots youth peace media initiative in the Great Lakes region of Africa which Laurena helped to launch to encourage and empower youth in their peace-building and development work.” We will hear her presentation but also engage Laurena in a conversation about the process she used to start this ministry and reflect at the same time about what it means to engage the culture on lower Vancouver Island with the Gospel.

The IWDA is a wonderful day retreat where you can be refreshed and inspired in the Lord, reconnect with old friends, meet new ones and enjoy a tasty lunch (that you don’t have to make or clean up!). The Women’s Ministry team of New Life Community Baptist in Duncan is honored and excited to be hosting this year’s IWDA, Saturday May 14, 2011. This year’s theme is, “Daughter, You’re Amazing”. The speakers are Muriel Brakefield and Shannon Youell. See Literature Table for brochures.

~ Easter this year is on April 24th. There will be an Elk Lake Baptist Easter Choir this year under the capable leadership of Heidi Rancourt. There will be two more practices for the choir: Monday, April 11th and Wednesday, April 20th ; both at 7 p.m. Please speak to Heidi if you are interested in being a part of the ELB Easter Choir.

~ South Island Centre for Counselling and Training (formerly IPSA) is holding a one day course for those who are connected to someone who has a serious problem (like an addiction) and you wonder how to help them. This course provides insight into the stages of change and motivational tools to help someone move forward. Martin Spray, a registered psychologist and a Christian, offers the course. near the coat rack.

~ The Church First Aid Kit is located in the cupboards above the sink next to the Nursery.
